Bright new flooring results in happy children and staff (and happy cleaners). This school hall had a Granwood floor which had seen better days. Key Floors removed the existing floor, diamond ground the subfloor and levelled it as necessary.
The Polyflor 2000 Pur heavy duty smooth vinyl in Sapphire with random circles in Glacier Blue made the whole area look inviting and fun and, we trust, has made it easier to clean!
We were excited when Benchmark Designs awarded us the contract for 300m² flooring in the Armoury Cafe and kitchen area at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Designed by SHH Architecture & Interior Design the monochrome concentric circles create a stunning statement floor.
The product chosen was Polyflor Classic Mystique PUR vinyl. Polyflor’s in-house waterjet technology ensured the creation of perfect circles echoing the RAF logo. Key Floors then pieced the circles together on site. Great result – eye catching as well as easy to maintain.
This is a huge sector covering a range of premises from local general practice and dental surgeries, through clinics and care homes to modern hospitals, each with its specialised flooring needs. At Key Floors we appreciate the importance of finding the right product for every location and client, bearing in mind ease of maintenance, hygiene and safety.
With an ageing population who may have specialist requirements such as safety flooring or impervious carpet, our fitters are sympathetic to the needs of staff and patients in what can sometimes be challenging environments. We always consider the effect different flooring can have on the mental and emotional state of the end user.
When Ask Technology, experienced fast track PCB assembly specialists, needed to move to larger premises in Basingstoke we were pleased to quote for the flooring in their new unit. We had previously laid the anti-static flooring at their old site so were aware of the importance of finding the right flooring product and also how vital it was to lay it in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
We were dealing with an area of just under 300m² for the Production phase. On inspection of the site we realised the subfloor needed to be prepared with an Ardex One Coat DPM. Once this was dry we laid Arditex ammonia free latex. Using F. Ball & Co conductive adhesive, approved by Polyflor, the SD heavy duty vinyl tiles from the Polyflor ESD range were laid in Steel Grey. Ensuring that their production process was secure from damage through the floor, the flooring should maintain its properties until Ask wish to move again! Added to which it will be easy to keep clean and be easy on the eye.
Director Andrew Clisby commented “Key Floors were great to work with. Their product knowledge was vital in our choice of flooring and the installation went really well. In hindsight, we must have been a real pain to work for as we couldn’t afford any down time due to the nature of our business but they worked around our tight schedule and did an amazing job. I couldn’t recommend the team more highly.”
We were excited to be successful with our quote to O A Barraclough for the flooring in the new Dukes Hall at Wellington Riding, one of the UK’s biggest and best known equestrian centres.
This flooring ticks all the boxes, being attractive, hard wearing and easy to maintain. The new area is a welcome addition to the downstairs horse dominated areas, a space where visitors can relax with a cup of coffee and be tempted to buy that all important “must have” accessory.
- Polyflor Expona vinyl woodplank in Limed Oak in this open plan merchandising area and Café on the first floor. Good looking and practical this hard wearing commercial vinyl (LVT) was the ideal product for such a busy area.
- Tarasafe Ultra heavy duty slip resistant vinyl sheet was an excellent choice for the cafe kitchen, stairs and toilets. The ease of maintenance of this hygienic flooring ensures the safety of the many visitors and the kitchen staff.
“Keyfloors have been our first choice for contract flooring for over 30 years. For the contract at Wellington Riding Stables Tommy and his fitters gave an excellent service from conception to completion meeting the tight deadlines required. As always the standards of workmanship was high and carried out in a friendly and professional manner. We will be using Keyfloors on further projects and look forward to working with them again.” Kevin Barraclough, O A Barraclough Ltd
One of the most successful and rewarding jobs Key Floors carried out in the summer holidays was the refurbishment of the Sixth Form Centre at this well known school in Reading.
The total area of flooring was 450m², divided between Heckmondwike FB Supacord carpet tiles in Lavender for the main student common room area, and Polyflor XL PU vinyl sheet in Sedona Pink for the kitchen/eating area. Polyflor XL PU sheet was used to great effect as a walkway dividing the different areas. We were as pleased with the result as the school!
"Really fantastic work, we are so pleased with the final result and so are the students. Thank you for all of your hard work over this summer. Great, thank you." The Abbey School Reading
We were delighted to work with Target Shopfitters on this exciting project, a theatre/cinema, owned by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, in need of refurbishment. We uplifted the existing flooring in the public areas and laid Karndean Da Vinci Kenyan Tigerwood vinyl woodstrip on the two floors comprising the Main Foyer.
In view of the need for ultimate safety combined with heavy traffic on the foyer stairs we used Gradus Extra Grip nosings DD XT1 in Carbon. In the staff area/restaurant we laid Interface Flor Transformation carpet tiles in Pacific and in the toilets Altro Suprema II 2mm slip resistant vinyl sheet in Oatmeal, which is an ideal choice for safety flooring in an area where a high quality product in a light colour is required. We are justifiably proud of the finished result.
This Catholic primary school with 400+ students was looking for new flooring in its Reception that would incorporate the school logo.
Forbo Marmoleum Modular heavy duty lino tiles were suggested as an attractive hard wearing product with good environmental credentials, suitable for such a busy area.
They also needed new vinyl flooring in the Dining Hall, corridor and stairs, although first we had to remove some low risk asbestos thermoplastic tiles, something we at Key Floors are trained to do in accordance with HSE guidelines. We also needed to remove two existing inspection covers and replace them with new Howe Green Vis Edge ones. The final result exceeded everyone’s expectations!
“A great job, particularly with Tomasz sorting out the logo very quickly. The fitters were efficient and cleared up after themselves well. We would recommend your company and will be using you again.” Cheryl Rose, St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School
Key Floors acted as principal contractor for Hampshire County Council for the refurbishment of the Sports Hall at Perins School, a Community Sports College situated in Alresford. The project involved subfloor preparation on an area of over 600m² before a Gym-Tech surface was laid.
After removing the cricket nets the existing Granwood floor was removed and the surface diamond ground. Any minor cracks or holes were treated before we applied two coats of Tremco ES300 surface DPM. Tremco No 7 Aggregate was broadcast into the surface and after vacuuming loose aggregate we pumped Treadfast Unismooth Underlayment onto the surface. Once clean the surface was ready for the Gym-Tech system to be installed.
Gradus SO100 sit-on skirting was then fitted to the perimeter. It was an expensive and detailed project but all the work on the subfloor has paid dividends.
New nursery and crèche. Key Floors were pleased to work with Osmer Building Limited to create an attractive and safe environment for young children at this nursery.
We supplied and laid Gerflor Nera heavy duty wood effect sheet vinyl in the nursery areas, with Gerflor Tarasafe Ultra heavy duty slip-resistant sheet vinyl in the WC's.
The reception area was carpeted in Flotex heavy duty carpet with Wolff Baccarat broadloom carpet in the offices.
We were pleased to be contracted by Createability Ltd to do the flooring as part of the major £2.85 million refurbishment of this Recreation Centre.
The work was carried out in phases, starting on the third floor with the heavy traffic Reception area, leading through to the Offices and Café area.
Beside the Reception area is a busy Crèche where we installed Polyflor XL pu vinyl sheet and Tarasafe Ultra.
We then tackled the fifth floor new Gym area, where we supplied and laid over 800 sq m of flooring in the three zones, including the spectacular tiered Cardio Zone overlooking the pool, where we laid the hard wearing Heckmondwike Supacord.
The final stage involved the Changing Rooms and Weight Training area on the sixth floor. In view of the hard wear the flooring would be subjected to, we used heavy duty vinyl sheet in the Reception areas, while the offices and gym areas were laid in Heckmondwike FB Supacord.
The nosings on the stairs were Gradus G11 and in the Café, Changing Rooms and WC's we installed Tarasafe Ultra heavy duty slip-resistant vinyl sheet.
For over 25 years Key Floors has been working with the UK's largest home improvement retailer.
During this time we have been the main flooring contractor for the shop floor and admin areas. Much of our work now covers providing and refurbishing the flooring in the merchandising areas of stores throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Attractive and hard wearing heavy duty vinyl wood plank has proved to be the ideal floor covering for these important sales areas. We maintain our reputation for being professional and competitive by providing a proactive service, able to meet tight deadlines while continuing to achieve a high standard of work.
We work closely with the E-maintenance department for reactive day work on flooring throughout the network of stores.
This Basingstoke based charity provides a safe working environment for adults with learning disabilities, who require training in a working place environment.
On this occasion the choice of colours was left to the service users who chose red, purple, blue and green with yellow for the carpet’s border in Heckmondwike FB Supacord carpet tiles, thus creating an eye catching design across the two open plan classrooms.
Colour is increasingly popular in different learning environments as it helps to engage students, bringing classrooms to life.
Tomasz Halys, Project Manager at Key Floors, said: “We have used Supacord tiles on many of our projects before and we knew that they were the perfect choice for Loddon Social Enterprise.”
"A very prompt and courteous service from start to finish. Tomasz was very helpful in working out our colourful pattern. The two fitters were very polite and tidy with their work. The finished work is excellent and our Service Users and staff love the new look. Thanks again for a great finish. We used Key Floors three years ago for our main workshop and would recommend this company." Loddon Social Enterprise
This library at Leigh Park in Havant was an exciting project. Over 400m² of carpet in the public area was in need of refurbishment, including the children's area.
Once the existing floor coverings had been uplifted it was necessary to replace some of the chip board before latexing the total area and laying the carpet.
Heckmondwike FB Supacord sheet carpet in Amethyst was the product chosen, with Heckmondwike FB Vanquisher specialist entrance matting in Deep Blue with its attractive rib and velour surface being the ideal choice for the lobby and around the counter where the traffic would be heaviest.
We were pleased to get a request from Rushmoor Borough Council to quote for the refurbishment of the First Floor Foyer and Bar area of the popular Princes Hall in Aldershot.
As this venue is used for many events ranging from West End shows and pantomimes to smaller private and business functions they needed to find a good looking and hard wearing floor covering.
After uplifting the existing flooring and latexing the large area we laid Karndean Van Gogh Wood Effect Plank flooring in Classic Oak. With Karndean's large planks (1219mm x 178mm) the area benefits from the look of a classic oak floor with none of the inherent maintenance challenges of a real wood oak floor.
“Excellent service – thank you.” Princes Hall, Aldershot
Flooring has added the final touches to this ambitious and attractive new centre for the parish church in Hartley Wintney, a busy village near the Key Floors base in Hampshire.
The new building has under floor heating and the clients were keen to minimise any environmental impact. Key Floors laid Interface Heuga 725 carpet tiles in Paprika in the foyer, front stairs, the upper foyer and a meeting room.
These were chosen for the busiest areas in view of their hard wearing properties and their meeting the specification required (and it would appear the colour matching the church architecture!) Gradus G12 nosings were fitted to the stairs with their TA stair trim.
To accommodate the less heavy footfall in the remaining upstairs areas Forbo Tessera Teviot carpet tiles in Sienna were laid, apart from in the Creche where we fitted an appropriate product, Polyflor Acoustix fx in American Oak. Pop into the centre for a cup of coffee and take a look. (The floor in the cafe area was supplied and laid by the contractors!)
“Special thanks to the fitting team - Tomas and Max. They were very hard working and very helpful.” St John’s Church Centre
Stunning Tarkett Omnisports 6.5 mm vinyl is Tarkett Sports' most popular multi-use gym flooring. Used in Sky Blue in this sports hall at this well known Basingstoke school (formerly Aldworth Science College) it adds a totally new dimension to the space.
With the lines installed, we are all thrilled with the finished floor. The quote was requested by HCC Property Services. We trust that this Omnisports flooring will serve the college well for many years.
We also laid Forbo Flotex in the Science Block at the school. This impervious product is made from a high tech textile, combining the warmth of a carpet with the ease of cleaning etc of a hard flooring surface - an unusual but successful flooring solution.
George Wilks, Site Manager of Aldworth School added, “Having known the quality of their workmanship for over 20 years we had no hesitation in asking Key Floors to lay our new sports hall floor.”
This busy and vibrant sixth form college has a heavy footfall in the foyer and common areas of the main building. We were therefore happy to supply and lay Heckmondwike Supacord heavy duty fibre bonded carpet to the foyer, stairs and corridors.
This product is ideal for such a location and particularly suited the octagonal design planned for the centre of the reception area. The main carpet was in Blueberry with the octagonal feature Purple and Lavender. To prolong the life of the carpet all the external entrances were fitted with Coral Duo entrance matting. Heavy duty aluminium nosings were fitted on the three staircases - where required curved templated nosings were used.
“Key Floors have been working with Farnborough Sixth Form College for over 20 years. During this time they have refurbished the flooring throughout the college under their Project Manager, Phil Weston. Most recently we have renewed the carpet and matting in the main entrance foyer, corridors and stairs. We have always found the service to be efficient and the work has been carried out to a high standard.”
Warren Vye, Estates Manager, The Sixth Form College Farnborough
Another stylish floor for Reigate, this time at Reigate School. With a Polyflor safety blue vinyl background floor the six pink stars featuring inspirational text and groups of stars lead pupils and staff down this corridor.
What might have been a standard school corridor has been transformed by the decorative stars that were made by Altro Flooring.
Key Floors fitted new flooring in two rooms in the Design and Technology Block of this successful secondary school in south west Hampshire.
The chosen product was Gerflor Mipolam Cosmo sheet vinyl in Lichen, which is extremely hard wearing, environmentally friendly and easy to maintain. Ideal for use in this specialised area.
