Add Colour to your Flooring!

Posted on July 20, 2016

The 2016 Olympics and Paralympics will soon start in Rio de Janeiro. It is the first time a South American and Portuguese-speaking country has hosted these auspicious events, and they promise to be very colourful occasions!

Everything about Rio seems to be bursting with colour! It is known for its breathtaking beaches such as Copacabana and Ipanema, and its famous landmarks including the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer – named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Not forgetting its renowned Carnival, with spectacular dancing and costumes in abundance. The image on the right shows Rio Escadaria Selarón – the Selaron Steps. These are the work of Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón who dedicated it as “my tribute to the Brazilian people”.

At Key Floors we’re looking forward to seeing the South American flavour of this year’s Olympics! But it’s hard to believe that it’s already 4 years since the London Olympics; and seeing the above image reminded us of the wonderful colourful flooring at the Olympic Park in 2012. Comprised of coloured circles in pink, orange, blue, yellow and green it looked warm and welcoming and helped to set the tone for the whole event. The coloured flooring – made of rubber – was a temporary surface covering the main pedestrian route between the nearby Central Park bridges. It was described by The Guardian as looking like a “giant psychedelic playmat” but it certainly attracted attention!

Whilst the above flooring may have been temporary, it may inspire some organisations to be bolder in their colour choices for flooring. Different types of commercial flooring – including rubber flooring, commercial vinyl flooring and heavy duty linoleum – are not only hardwearing and easy to maintain, but also come in a wide range of colours. Many types of commercial flooring can also be customised to include a pattern or design of your choice or your company logo.

Enjoy the Olympics this summer – and if you are inspired to add a little more colour into your commercial flooring then why not get in touch with Key Floors to see how we can help!
